Who is a Christian Creative?
The creative industry is flooded with lies, deception, and discouraging stories. There are even strange ones of the sacrifices and rituals in order to succeed in that industry.
It is time to offer an alternative narrative!
As a Bible-believing Christian, I know and I believe the Bible has all the answers. The only thing is to allow the Bible to inform every aspect of the creative process.
A Christian creative is called to (creatively) apply Bible teachings and principles in the creative industry. It is a person who acknowledges Jesus is Lord in everything and such, everything he/she creates must be for the glory and honour of the Lord.
The Christian creative applies the principles end-to-end – From the conception of the idea to the execution. They are not out to create stuff and then labelling it ‘Christian’ at the end.
When there is a scandal, when a popular person in the industry falls, the publicity is also meant to be a deterrent to the Christians. The media is a factory. The same media that props up someone is the same media that ‘celebrates’ their fall and disgrace. Then the media moves on and identifies another person to prop up. The cycle continues.
One of the ways of breaking this cycle is by redefining the purpose in the creative industry. The main focus ought to be on people: Who are you becoming as we create and what/who are causing others to become as they use what we have created?
The Christian creative should teach and encourage others to be creative. God created man to be creative: “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them,” (Genesis 1:27). This dimension of our identity and inheritance is stolen by the systems around us. Many are made to believe they are not creative and they will never be. Creativity ought to be second nature to all human beings, and it ought to be part of everything we do.
The ultimate purpose of a Christian creative is to make new disciples. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come,” (2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV). Thus: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you, “(Matthew 28:19-20).
Have a creative weekend!
